Architect Member (AIA)

Individuals who are licensed to practice architecture in the United states are invited to be a part of the leading organization representing the interests of the profession, The American Institute of Architects (AIA). Learn more

Members who reside in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, or Nassau counties are eligible to belong to AIA Jacksonville as their local AIA Chapter.

One of the advantages of being a licensed architect member of the Institute is the use of the AIA credentials, identifying you as part of the community of architecture. AIA members adhere to AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, and are required to strengthen their knowledge of the profession through continuing education requirements.  AIA New Member Application_US Resident.

Requirements:
Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an architect member of the AIA.

AIA Member Emeritus

Denotes an AIA member in good standing for 15 successive years who 1) has attained the age of 70, or 2) has attained the age of 60 and is fully retired from the profession or unable to continue working in the profession. Members' Emeritus receive the same benefits as AIA members but now have emeritus status without the customary membership fees.  Eligible AIA members can visit the AIA national web site to obtain an emeritus member application form. Associate Member (Assoc. AIA)

Associate AIA membership is open to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Recent graduate with a degree in architecture, or
  • Currently enrolled in the Intern Development Program (IDP) and working towards licensure, or
  • Currently work under the supervision of an architect or hold a degree in architecture, or
  • Faculty member in a university program in architecture.

National: $105.00
State:       $140.00
Local:      $   50.00
Total:       $295.00

Requirements:
Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an Associate member of the AIA.

International Associate Architect Member (Int'l Assoc. AIA)

Individuals who have an architecture license or equivalent from a non-U.S. Licensing authority are eligible to join as an Int'l Assoc. AIA.  In addition to the many benefits of joining the AIA, international members residing locally can take advantage of the many networking and educational opportunities offered by AIA Jacksonville. Recent graduates

Take advantage of complimentary membership.   

As the emerging leaders for the profession, associate members are encouraged to join AIA to expand your network and knowledge about the practice of architecture.

Transfer Architect or Associate Membership

Architect or Associate members who move within the Chapter territory, can have their membership transferred. Please print the transfer form, fill in your current information and fax it back to your former chapter to process.

Requirements:  Membership is required at the local, state and national levels to be an architect member of the AIA.

Are you no longer receiving benefits?

Has your membership lapsed? (Former) AIA members who do not renew their membership by March 31, 2009 will be considered lapsed.  Lasped architect members no longer have the right to use the AIA or Associate AIA designation for associate members. 

Do you need help in meeting new State Mandatory Continuing Education reqirements?  All benefits of membership cease when membership is lapsed including correspondance about all local AIA events.  Reinstate your membership to take advantage of all benefits including free admission to Chapter AIA/CES lunch and learn programs, discounted rates to many allied professional programs, and subscription to our newsletter to help you meet State Mandatory Continuing Education requirements for Florida licensed architects.  See our Education section for information on AIA continuing education requirements and state licensing.
