Safety Assessment Program (SAP)

Safety Assessment Program
Description:
The Safety Assessment Program utilizes volunteers and mutual aid resources to provide professional engineers and architects and certified building inspectors to assist local
governments in safety evaluation of their built environment in an aftermath of a disaster. The program is managed by CA OES with cooperation from professional organizations.
SAP produces two resources, SAP Evaluators, described above, and SAP Coordinators, which are local government representatives that coordinate the program. CA OES issues
registration ID cards to all SAP Evaluators that have successfully completed the program requirements. Training for this program is now eligible for Homeland Security Grant Program funding.
Objectives:
1. Participants learn how structures behave during and after a natural disaster.
2. Program teaches participants how to evaluate the safety of buildings affected
by high winds, floods, fires, and explosions, as well as earthquakes.
3. Participants learn how to become a resource to assist local governments under
the Office of Emergency services.
4. Participants actually evaluate several test cases.
Speaker: Michael Lingerfelt

Earn 6 AIA CEU's, Engineers 6 ASCE CEU's.
